“Hilly Helpers” 2014

16″ x 20″ Acrylic on Canvas

It was a first job for me at the beginning of the line. For a freshly printed check that I could call mine. Dad started the company to help Santa out a bit. He figured out the best system using all his wit. Dad was the inventor so of course he became the inspector for all. While me and my brother were the assemblers of everything so small. Each snowman had to be rolled to just the right size. But each expression was unique to ensure a surprise. Some carrot noses were crooked while others were straight. No details were skipped while no deadlines were ever late. I had the task of making sure each snowman was nicely packed and securely round. While my brother added coal buttons, carrots, scarves, hats and twigs trying not to drop too much on the ground. The giant Roley Poley snowman served as our inspirational backdrop. With the north pole reminding us, till Santa’s sac was full, we could not stop. Dad was always serious at work but always fair. He reminded us how important it was to show great care. Looking back, I feel lucky to have played a part in something so special for all. The joy those snowman must have brought to all those boys and girls under their trees so tall.
